Short answer: A sculptural bench is art you can sit on: a carved stone, fabricated metal or parametric wood form with a comfortable seat height of 43–47 cm. It is led by form. The shape comes first and the seating is built into it, not bolted on. That said, comfort is not optional. We hold seat height at 43–47 cm, the range that suits most adults, and shape the seat depth and edges so you can actually sit for a while.

Which style of bench suits which garden?

• Parametric wood: stacked, flowing forms that feel warm to sit on, best under cover or in shade.
