Short answer: A bespoke fire pit in the Gulf is a sculpture by day and a gathering point by night. Choose gas for clean, controllable flame, bioethanol where there is no gas line, or wood if you want atmosphere and have the space. Make it in heat-rated stone, bronze or 316 stainless steel, place it at the social centre of the terrace, and design the clearances and safety in from the start.
From November to March, Dubai lives outside, and the fire pit is where everyone ends up. Most of the ones I see are catalogue steel bowls that look like barbecue equipment when they are off, which is 20 hours a day. A fire feature should look good unlit. That is the whole case for making it a sculpture.
What makes a fire feature a sculpture?

Which material is best for an outdoor fire pit in Dubai?
- Stone: heat-rated stone bowls and surrounds, substantial and sculptural. The burner area uses stone rated for flame; decorative marble stays on the outer faces.
- Bronze: warm and enduring, patinated for outdoor life. Lovely as a fire vessel.
- 316 stainless steel: for poolside and coastal terraces. Clean, contemporary, very durable.
Gas, bioethanol or wood?
- Gas: clean, instant, controllable, low maintenance. The most common choice; needs a supply line designed in.
- Bioethanol: no flue or gas line, flexible placement, smaller flame. Good where gas is impractical.
- Wood: the most atmospheric, with more smoke, ash, clearance and cleaning. Needs space and a check of community rules.

Where should a fire pit go?
At the social centre of the outdoor space: anchoring a seating group on the terrace, at the heart of the garden, or as a focal point on the pool deck. Arrange the seating round it. Make sure it is visible from the living room, because a lit fire seen through the glass is what draws people out. Keep it clear of overhanging pergolas, planting and fabric shades.
