The Commission

One Hand, Start to Handover

Most of our water features arrive into someone else’s pool. This one is different: the client asked for the entire system — the carved fountain, the surrounding pool, the waterproofing, the hydraulics, the lighting and the controls — designed, engineered, built and handed over working, by one team.

The form is a quatrefoil: a four-lobed classical geometry drawn to sit inside the courtyard’s circular paving band, so the plan reads as a rosette from the upper floors. The centrepiece is a single-tier composition — a turned upper bowl carried on four carved scroll corbels — cut in Bianco Carrara, whose soft grey veining ties the piece to the villa’s stone facades.

Everything mechanical is buried. The pump room sits underground fifteen metres away; in the courtyard there is only stone, water and light.

Scope of Work — Everything

  • Design & engineering drawings
  • Carved Carrara centrepiece
  • Quatrefoil pool — RC shell, waterproofing, tile & marble
  • Underground plant room, 15 m from the basin
  • Hydraulics, filtration & drainage
  • Underwater LED lighting
  • Automation & controls
  • Commissioning & handover
The System

What the Courtyard Doesn’t Show

The finished fountain is the visible tenth of the project. Below and beside it sits the build-up that lets marble hold water in Gulf heat for decades.

Cross-section drawing of the fountain system: sculpted centrepiece and marble basin over a reinforced concrete shell, connected by buried pipework to an underground pump room with control panel, timer, filter and isolation valve
01

The Basin Build-Up

Reinforced-concrete shell on a compacted base, waterproofing membrane and PVC waterstop at every joint, cement mortar bed, then the visible skin: emerald mosaic tile and 20 mm Carrara coping and cladding.

02

The Centrepiece

Turned Carrara upper bowl on four carved scroll corbels, concealed stainless anchors into the basin slab, with the supply riser cored through the pedestal to a single bubbler jet.

03

The Plant Room

Below grade, 15 m from the basin with access cover: pump, filter, isolation valve, pressure gauge, control panel and timer, running on 220–240 V single phase — sized to the fountain head and jet requirement, serviceable without touching the courtyard.

04

Power & Light

All pipework in pressure-rated uPVC; power and lighting cables in buried conduit; underwater luminaires run at 24 V DC — nothing above the waterline but the glow.

Fully Automated

It Runs Itself

Commissioned, programmed and handed over on a schedule the owner never has to think about.

Scheduling

Timer-controlled start and stop — the fountain wakes with the household and rests overnight, adjustable from the control panel.

Water Pressure

Jet height set at commissioning and held by the pump controls — the bubbler reads the same on a still morning and a windy evening.

Lighting

Underwater LEDs switch with the schedule, so the water lifts into light at dusk without anyone touching a switch.

Protection

Filtration on the loop, isolation valve and pressure gauge in the plant room, and a basin drain for seasonal maintenance.
