Marble

Carved from a single block. Twelve stones, four finishes, and the honest answer to where each one can stand in Dubai.

The short version

Marble, In Six Lines

Calcite, about 3 on the Mohs scale — soft enough to carve, soft enough to scratch. That one fact explains everything else on this page.

Made byCarving from a single sound block. Veins oriented to run with the form.
IndoorsAny stone, any finish. Polished shows the vein; honed shows the shape.
OutdoorsUnder shade, honed and sealed. Hard water and full sun etch a polish over time.
WeightHeaviest of the three. A 180 cm bench is a pallet and a two-person lift at least.
Lead timeSix to twelve weeks from approved drawing, depending on block sourcing.
CareDry dust. pH-neutral cleaner. Reseal outdoor pieces yearly. Never acid.

What we carve

The Stones

Twelve stones we keep in the block yard or source to order. The name tells you the quarry; the vein tells you the piece.

What we do to it

The Finishes

Same stone, four surfaces. Finish is chosen after the position, never before.

How it is made

From Block To Piece

The difference between a good marble piece and a great one is decided before a single cut.

01SelectWe choose the block for soundness and grain, large enough to cut the whole piece from one stone.
02OrientVeins are planes of weakness. The block is turned so they run with the form, never across a thin element.
03CarveWater-cooled saws rough the mass; hand tools bring the detail. Photographed for approval before finishing.
04SealHoned or polished, then sealed to the position it is going to — indoor, courtyard or terrace.

Before the stone

Where Will It Stand?

Position first, stone second, finish last.

Controlled light, no weather.

StoneAnything — this is where Calacatta and Statuario earn their price.
FinishPolished for vein, honed for form.

Send us the position and we will name the stone before you choose the piece.

Living with it

Living With Marble

DailyDust with a dry, soft cloth. That is most of it.
SpillsWipe immediately with a pH-neutral cleaner. Wine, citrus and coffee etch a polish if left.
OutdoorsReseal once a year. Keep sprinklers and hard water off polished faces.
NeverAcid, abrasive pads, pressure washers, or a sealer we have not specified.

Details before the decision

Questions We Get Asked

What is the best marble for an outdoor sculpture in Dubai?

A honed Carrara or a durable beige like Crema Marfil, sited under shade and properly sealed. For a fully exposed position, Bronze or Stainless Steel is usually the better long-term choice.

What is the real difference between Calacatta and Carrara?

Carrara has fine, soft grey veining on a white ground and costs less; Calacatta has bolder, thicker gold-and-grey veining, is rarer and costs more. Carrara suits detail; Calacatta suits statement.

Does white marble yellow over time?

Quality marble does not yellow on its own. Residue from the wrong cleaning products or sealers can discolour it; correct sealing and pH-neutral cleaning keep whites bright.

Can you match a specific marble I have seen elsewhere?

In most cases yes. We source blocks to match a named marble and, where possible, a particular vein character, subject to sound blocks being available at the size you need.

Is more dramatic veining more expensive?

Generally yes. Bold, consistent veining like Calacatta is rarer at sculpture-grade block sizes and carries a premium over Carrara.

Why do two pieces in the same marble look and cost different?

A sculpture is carved from one block, so the block has to be large, sound and consistent through its whole volume. Two blocks from the same quarry can differ in vein, colour and yield — and so in price.
